Website engagement, sales cycle length and velocity (conversion of prospects to opportunities and onward), revenue, retention, deal sizes (typically these are larger for ABM) and number of contacts per account are all additional metrics to monitor for success. This may be shown through the acquisition and engagement of net new contacts; identifying and engaging new buying centres or influential decision-making groups. As the focus is not on lead volume, but rather, on developing a relationship with a quality account; there are a range of other success criteria and metrics that account-based reporting will consider. With them, we can gain deeper account level insight and profile stakeholders, gauge buyer propensity, identify the correct mix of media and channels to engage on and more.
Increasing leads, improving retention and driving revenue are increasingly, a marketing goal. Use your own customer/campaign data, account level data from social listening and even 3rd party intent data to identify accounts with the highest propensity to buy. ABM allows marketers to achieve lead goals by creating a more targeted, joint sales and marketing plan that treats high-value accounts as “markets of one” comprised of multiple key stakeholders. If you're considering an ABM campaign, running a pilot is an ideal way to showcase potential results, build support internally, and develop the initial foundation and resources required for a full ABM programme.
Over 6,000 ABM team members, management, and clients joined a live-stream Sting concert celebrating ABM's 50th anniversary on the New York Stock Exchange. This collaboration enhanced the guest experience and showcased ABM's expertise in large-scale facility management, significantly expanding its presence in the Chicago area and its national What does abm stand for? portfolio. ABM partnered with Navy Pier, an iconic Midwest destination, to manage over 1,500 parking spaces and support upgrades to parking infrastructure.
ABM's Mission: To make a difference, every person, every day

With the right toolkit, it's now easier to track lead and customer data in detail, speak with priority accounts via the right channels; and importantly, personalise communication at scale. Keep in mind that every campaign is unique – channel selection will also depend on the environments that your target accounts are active in; which may include offline activity. Depending on your specific ABM programme, level of maturity and funnel stage focus, ABM execution channels will vary. Account awareness of your company is another key indicator to determine MQA readiness. A key point of difference between an Account-based Marketing approach and “traditional” lead generation strategies is measurement – specifically how you measure and monitor “good-fit” accounts vs “good-fit” leads Are you focussing on successfully developing a relationship with the DMU?
– It’s a more personal approach

At an ABM Lite level, activities are still quite personalised; organisations who suit this tier will target using a defined account list and vertical focus – but may not yet have clarity on specific target individuals. The further down the framework we move, the broader the targeting focus and starting point. At Strategic, we have defined four-tiers of ABM to outline the different starting points that an organisation may need.
Content Assets in ABM Programs
It’s been shown time and time again to be more effective to increase revenue and close more deals than traditional marketing methods, so it’s definitely worth your consideration. This type of marketing is a strategic approach that focuses on specific accounts and their decision-makers. If you’re ready to see what ABM could look like for your business, let’s talk!
- High conversion rates are crucial for account-based marketing because there are often only a small number of target accounts.
- Each company’s strategy will employ its particular mix of tactics based on the industry and vertical served and the category of products they sell.
- Once you have a good view on who you want to target, use tools such as Lusha, Cognism or LinkedIn’s Sales Navigator to start building your lists of prospects.
- As of 2013, the company has over 130,000 employees, over 350 offices, and various international locations.
Account based marketing (ABM) is a business marketing strategy that concentrates resources on a set of target accounts within a market. The time and resources you invest in understanding and targeting specific accounts will pay dividends in larger deals, shorter sales cycles, and longer-lasting customer relationships. Choose a handful of target accounts, understand them deeply, and create truly personalized campaigns that speak directly to their needs. Simply putting a company’s name on standard marketing materials isn’t ABM. Traditional marketing metrics like leads generated don’t tell the full ABM story. Create account-specific landing pages that speak directly to each target company’s challenges and goals.
Account-based Marketing is frequently cited as an example of the close alignment of sales and marketing teams. In scenarios involving long sales cycles, researchers have reported that ABM can increase customer lifetime value, and it may also be applied to key prospect accounts in support of major new opportunities. This formalized earlier practices of key account management and industrial marketing, positioning ABM as a structured framework for aligning sales and marketing around specific accounts.
ABM success metrics
One side is identifying the right prospects, the other side is what you do to attract them. Blindly building awareness is never going to be efficient, but building awareness regularly amongst a small group of people…that’s a very different case. Whilst a traditional marketing campaign might cast its net reasonably wide, account based marketing is the opposite. That shouldn’t be the case, because at the core it’s pretty straightforward. The company profile, business description, and key company details are provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence.
This success stems from the alignment between sales and marketing teams – both departments work together to pursue the same specific accounts, rather than operating in separate silos. Think of it as fishing with a spear rather than a net – you’re going after the exact fish you want, with precision and purpose. If the CFO needs results in 60 days, ABM is not the right starting point.
Marking increased revenue for the 82nd consecutive year, ABM and our subsidiaries now serve clients in 35 of the 40 largest metropolitan areas in the United States. Bill Steele becomes President and Chief Executive Officer of ABM in 1991, having started as a management trainee in 1958. At our 50-year mark, ABM has grown to employ more than 6,000 people, with offices in 45 cities across North America.
ABM allows you to start those conversations early, with messaging that speaks directly to stakeholders’ concerns. Account-based marketing isn’t just a trendy strategy—it’s a practical fit for industrial companies dealing with long sales cycles, complex buying committees, and niche audiences. When that kind of collaboration clicks, ABM stops feeling like a marketing tactic and starts delivering tangible business results. The most successful ABM campaigns I’ve seen are the ones where sales and marketing are truly in sync. If you notice more leads converting from a particular segment (say, mid-sized fabrication shops instead of massive manufacturers), use that insight to refine your targeting.
